Home Sweet Home

Seeing my mommy after 6 weeks! :)

Seeing my mommy after 6 weeks! :)

We are home! And I am not gonna lie, it feels good. Whatever sadness I had about leaving the RV basically zapped out of me the instant I walked in my door. So that’s good.

Other than our near death experience in the storm in Kansas, we had hardly seen a drop of rain our entire trip. Of course, the day that we are driving through DC and coming home, it decides to storm. That made already bad traffic even worse and we made a game time decision to stop at my parents in Fredericksburg and spend the night. All 5 of us really needed to get out of that RV and it was dinner time and mom and dad were already at Umi (a ridiculously good sushi restaurant in Fredericksburg – no idea how or why it is there – but it is delish), so they got a bunch of food to go and we all enjoyed some awesome sushi and an even more awesome sleepover. (Did I mention that I am a little obsessed with my parents? Favorite friends ever.) We got up the next morning and made the short trek back to Glen Allen. I drove the Tahoe with Jude since clearly we had zero food at the house, so he and I went straight to the store, while Shawn drove straight home with Macy and Luke. I was a little bummed to not see their reactions to being home, but I knew I would be even more bummed when Jude had a class A meltdown because we didn’t have milk. So Shawn texted me a picture he took about 9 seconds after walking in…Luke was already in his Buzz Light Year outfit and running around the house like a mad man. We have now been home for 6 days and the RV is STILL in the driveway and the house is still a disaster as we try to get unpacked and settled again. Shawn has basically unpacked the whole thing and even cleaned it so it should be going back to its resting place at the storage unit tomorrow. Macy said that the RV needs a name. I agree. If you have any suggestions, give them to me! I just can’t seem to come up with anything perfect.

So now we are in full “back to school” mode as Macy starts next week and the boys about a week after Labor Day. It will be SO ODD for me when all 3 are in school. I have always worked since they have been born. This will be a whole new routine for me and I really have no idea what to expect. I mean, do I nap Jude when he gets out at Noon? Or no because I will have to get him right back up to leave the house by 2:45 to go get Macy? Do I still get up and work out and shower before they wake up because those 3 pre-school hours will fly by and I will wish I didn’t spend it just working out and showering? I mean, I need to go to the grocery store. Preferably alone. (I took them to Target today and even had my mom with me and it was still a disaster.) And I am Macy’s room mom this year, which suddenly feels like a full time job. (It’s like when people retire and they have 1 doctor appointment to go to and suddenly their whole day is in a tizzy because they have to be somewhere at a certain time and it all becomes a huge deal. Yep. That’s me now.) Of course in my mind this is all going to be total organization, completely planned meals for the week, healthy lunches packed the night before, laundry always done and put away, a clean house, playdates, ballet, karate, etc. I know this is not reality, but I am going to let myself live in that place for another week and just pretend. (totally open to any stay at home mom tips. For reals.)

I just wanted to also say “thank you” to all of you who followed our adventure and sent me such great words of encouragement. I have had so many people ask for me to keep writing – which is a huge compliment! I told Shawn that I don’t want to be so narcissistic as to think people would have any interest in our day to day lives. It’s like Facebook on steroids. “Read about me! Here’s what I am doing now! Look at my cute kids!” So I don’t know. But I DO love having an outlet and of course I could just keep a journal but that’s just silly. No one gets to see that and what fun is that for me? :) I think we are passed the point of thinking that I am a private person. :) So I don’t know what lies ahead from a blogging standpoint, but I can say that it was a blast.

Oh and we have already started on our goal ‘Explore Richmond’. We ate brunch out with the kids on Sunday down in Carytown with my parents and my brother and brother in law. I got to say about 4 words to my family, barely tasted my food as it passed through my mouth, saw the inside of the ladies room 5 times and left a handprint on Jude’s arm from grabbing him so much to keep him from walking into traffic. We’re gonna need another 6 months before attempting that again.

Staying home is going to be awesome.

But boy, did we laugh our way down Dollar Mountain! I have loved 'adventuring' with you, Tennille--and then finishing off the sun-filled days with a nice glass of cold rose. Best summer ever!

Good grief, the Boyer's and their RV problems! Shawn, you certainly take after your Dad!! Glad I'm just his sister. Toneille, you have a way with words. I am thoroughly enjoying your blog.
